Oct 29 Zero Remittance Day: Migrants protest against the Global Forum on Migration and Development

On October 29, the International Assembly of Migrants and Refugees, in Manila for an alternative gathering to the Philippine-government sponsored Global Forum on Migration and Development, held a protest action to denounce forced migration and to call for the creation of jobs at home. That day, 10,000 migrant members of the International Migrants Alliance Also refused to send remittances as a symbolic protest against the systematic exploitation of migrants by governments and big businesses. The migrants also held a Speak Out at the Bonifacio Shrine later in the afternoon to share their stories of life and struggle.
